As a type of valve widely used in industries such as petroleum, natural gas, chemical, and power, the top entry ball valve has the core advantage of being able to achieve online maintenance without the need to disassemble the valve as a whole from the pipeline, significantly reducing downtime and lowering maintenance costs. The core operation of online maintenance revolves around the replacement of vulnerable components such as valve stem packing and O-ring seals, while adhering to strict safety regulations and technical processes.

● Before performing any online maintenance operation, it is necessary to first close the upstream and downstream shut-off valves of the ball valve, thoroughly release the air and relieve the pressure inside the pipeline, and ensure that the valve body is in a pressure free state.
● During operation, the ball valve should be placed in the fully closed position to prevent residual media or accidental flow. For ball valves with drive devices (such as handles, gearboxes, pneumatic or electric actuators), the corresponding drive components, such as handles, gearbox flanges, or pneumatic pipelines, need to be disassembled first to expose the valve stem and packing box area.
Remove the fixing nut and spring washer of the packing gland, take out the old packing, and check whether the sealing surface of the packing box is damaged. Clean the sealing surface with a cleaning agent compatible with the working medium (such as gasoline GB484-89 for cleaning metal parts and pure water or alcohol for cleaning non-metal parts for gas medium), then apply suitable lubricating grease (such as special 221 lubricating grease) on the sealing surface and new packing, install new packing according to the original structure, and tighten the gland nut symmetrically and evenly to ensure that the packing seal is leak free.
For O-rings involved in online maintenance, special tools should be used to carefully remove them to avoid scratching the sealing surface. After cleaning the installation groove of the sealing ring, apply a thin layer of lubricating grease on the surface of the new sealing ring to ensure that it is installed in place without distortion or compression.
External connectors such as drive flanges and limiters should be inspected for wear or corrosion after disassembly, and repaired or replaced if necessary. When reassembling, they should be tightened in the original order to ensure a stable connection.
● Parts cleaning and protection: Decomposed metal parts can be soaked or wiped with silk cloth (to avoid fiber shedding) to remove impurities such as grease and dirt; Non metallic parts (such as rubber seals) should be removed immediately after cleaning, and should not be soaked for a long time. They should be assembled in a timely manner after the cleaning agent evaporates to prevent rusting or contamination.
● Lubrication and compatibility: All moving parts (such as valve stem sealing surfaces and friction surfaces) need to be coated with lubricating grease compatible with the medium and material to ensure operational flexibility; Before assembling new parts, they also need to be cleaned thoroughly to avoid introducing impurities.
● Assembly specification: The flange bolts should be tightened symmetrically, gradually, and evenly to prevent deformation of the valve body due to uneven stress; During the assembly process, it is strictly prohibited for metal debris, fibers, foreign objects, etc. to enter the inner cavity, ensuring that the sealing surface is intact and undamaged.
● The top entry ball valve may experience leakage, operation jamming, and other problems during long-term use. Online maintenance can provide targeted solutions: if the leakage is caused by aging of the packing, the packing can be directly replaced; When the valve seat seal is poor, some structures can be repaired by adjusting the spring preload (such as adjusting the nut of the trunnion mounted ball valve) or replacing the valve seat without disassembling the valve body.
● Compared to traditional ball valves, the top entry structure is designed with a central flange connection, which allows for direct opening of the valve cover to remove the ball and valve seat for maintenance. It is particularly suitable for large-diameter and high-pressure working conditions, greatly reducing the workload and safety risks of pipeline disassembly and assembly.
● After completing component replacement and assembly, it is necessary to reinstall the driving device (such as handle, gearbox, or pneumatic actuator) in the reverse order of disassembly, operate the valve to check the flexibility of opening and closing, and ensure that there is no jamming or abnormal resistance.

Finally, conduct an air tightness test to verify whether the sealing performance meets the standard. Normal operation can only be resumed after confirming that there is no leakage.
The online maintenance of the top entry ball valve effectively extends the service life of the valve and ensures the continuous and stable operation of the industrial pipeline system through standardized process design and strict control of key details. It is an important technical support for its wide application in complex working conditions.
